Since 2005 Opoutere
School has been a participant in the
Kopu
Digital Opportunities project, the aim of which was to create an
atmosphere where the children develop ‘a lifelong love of learning’ and
to give them transferable skills to be able solve
problems
throughout their lives. In practice this has meant a range of
information and communication technologies (ICTs) including wireless
laptops with filtered high-speed internet access, interactive digital
whiteboards and the
KnowledgeNET (an online learning management system) being used to
facilitate implementation of inquiry-based learning.
For
more information on the inquiry approach see the
Inquiring
Mind and Galileo websites. Each classroom at Opoutere School has desktop computers, wireless laptop computers and ACTIVboard interactive whiteboards. The ratio of computers to pupils is currently 1:3 with a plan in plan to reduce this to 1:2 in the near future. |
